7-Azidoheptanoic Acid (CAS 135920-28-4) is a terminal-azide fatty acid linker for copper-catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) and strain-promoted azide–alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC) bioconjugation. Its molecular formula is C₇H₁₃N₃O₂ with a molecular weight of 171.20 g/mol.
The compound bears a terminal aliphatic azide at the ω-position of a seven-carbon chain and a free carboxylic acid at the opposite terminus. The azide reacts selectively with terminal or strained alkynes to form a stable 1,2,3-triazole linkage under CuAAC or metal-free SPAAC conditions. The carboxylic acid enables direct amide coupling to amine-bearing substrates, supporting bifunctional linker applications.
