1-(4-Azidophenyl)ethan-1-one (CAS 20062-24-2) is an aromatic organic azide reagent used in click chemistry and photoaffinity labeling applications. Its molecular formula is C₈H₇N₃O with a molecular weight of 161.16 g/mol. It is also known as p-Azidoacetophenone and 4′-Azidoacetophenone.
The compound bears a para-azido group on an acetophenone scaffold, enabling participation in copper-catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reactions with terminal alkynes to yield 1,2,3-triazole conjugates. The electron-withdrawing acetyl group modulates the electronic character of the aryl azide, which also undergoes photolytic nitrene insertion upon UV irradiation, making this compound a dual-mode bioconjugation handle.
